Sustainable development in the Arctic

CEO of Norwegian Shipowners' Association, Sturla Henriksen, took part in the opening panel at Arctic Frontiers in Tromsø 23. January. “To obtain and maintain a license to operate, the international business community must demonstrate its commitment to responsible and sustainable development of commercial opportunities”, says Henriksen.

Arctic Frontiers is an international arena on sustainable development in the Arctic, and brings academia, government and business together to create a firmer foundation for decision-making and sustainable economic development in the Arctic.

The conference was opened by Prime Minister of Norway, Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Finland, Juha Sipilä and Foreign Minister of Sweden, Margot Wahlstöm.

The Norwegian Shipowners' Association initiated Arctic Business in 2014 and over 30 invited CEO's will meet in the Arctic Business Council in Tromsø 24. January.

“The international business community is a key contributor in setting new industry standards, creating new technologies and bringing first-hand experiences into Arctic policy decision-shaping and -making”, says Sturla Henriksen.
