The Norwegian flagged foreign fleet is growing

At the end of January, 600 ships were registered in the Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS). This was the highest number of ships registered since 2008.

"We are pleased with the positive trend we now see. Many Norwegian shipping companies want a norwegian flag on their ship, and with more vessels on the Norwegian flag, we also secure more jobs and strengthen Norway as a strong maritime nation," said Harald Solberg, CEO of Norway Shipowners' Association.

Norway has two ship registers; Norwegian Ordinary Ship Register (NOR) and Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS). The NIS Register was established in 1987 to ensure a competitive alternative for Norwegian foreign shipping companies and ships.
