561 ships are now registered in the NIS

As many as 66 new ships were registered to NIS the last six months, 17 of them during the month of June. This is almost a doubling compared to the corresponding period last year.

Two newbuildings entered the register on 30 June, increasing the number in NIS to 561.

-Active maritime policy works, says CEO in NSA, Sturla Henriksen.

The Government’s decision to ease up on the trade areas for ships in the NIS is a contributing factor. This change has led to the registration of more cargo- and constructionships. The traditional deep-sea fleet has also increased and all indications show a continued positive development for the NIS for the rest of the year.

Many shipowners have reported interest in future registrations under the Norwegian flag.
