The European countries represent the maritime industry’s largest and most important trading partner. The EEA agreement ensures market access, predictability and equal competitive conditions in Europe. In addition, the EU holds a key role in the development of international regulations and policies.  

 

The Norwegian Shipowners’ Association works actively on EU issues through its membership in the European Community of Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) and also maintains a permanent representation in Brussels. 

Our prioritised EU policy issues include: 

  • Climate, environment and the EU’s work on green transition (Green Deal) 

  • Brexit and future relations with Great Britain 

  • State aid, taxes and financing 

  • Standards, including for port calls, emissions reporting 

  • Short sea shipping, moving freight from land to sea 

  • Digitalisation 

  • Offshore shipping and offshore wind
